How do you speak to young people about the future?
Free Visions Stories Class Today & Making Waves of Change
I worked on the front lines of the climate change movement in a variety of ways for many years. And it was when I was reporting on climate change that I began to hear this trend…. and it made me skin crawl every time I heard it… older adults apologizing to young people for leaving them a planet in duress.
And in the commentary was this half assed gesture of a shoulder shrug: “It’s up to you kid to save the world, Good luck.”
My first reaction is simply this:
“So you’re done? Retiring from your caretaking role for the planet? REALLY?”
On one side this act of accountability is responsible and considerate. Yes, be accountable to our youth, speak to what is real.
On another side-- there is something about this that doesn't include a larger reality.
As much as I know that there would be no ocean if my drop in the sea wasn't there... I also know about the systems and greed that I was born into were already in place when I was born. Meaning: if I take responsibility for this without speaking to the greater systems I was born into: I am denying the whole reality.
By the time you and I arrived onto this planet, the systems of oppression and greed were already designed, built, and implemented, and we were born onto a planet that was already being consumed by abusive, separation, and neglect, and we are not responsible for their creation.
We are responsible for waking up from the spell of consumerism
disconnection from earth,
seeing the impact,
and finding and acting on another way.
The smallest actions add up.
As we change our actions,
and change our role from victim of a system
to champion of a new way,
we change the story.
This is the story I am inspired to speak about with young people.
One of accountability.
What you eat,
what you consume,
what and how you tend to what you are no longer using--
how you relate to the physical matter of this world: matters.
And every single day,
we wake up
and yet again,
have yet another opportunity to realign,
and take steps toward being the best version of ourselves.
And we are all in this together. None of this, “its on your shoulder now kid, whoops” attitude.
I don't know about you, but when all is said and done,
I want to look at the young ones and say,
"I shifted the tides. I engaged the gift of life given to me to nurture a better world for you, to reconnect what was broken, to heal, and to vision a better possibility than the one I inherited...and bring joy and happiness as much as I can to every moment while being brought even more alive by the grief of what is being lost.”
I came into the planet this way, and left it better for those who are coming next… the people, the ants, and the whales…
When we are all tending to our own neighborhood, mountains can be moved, waves of change can be created.
Today...we are playing with waves of change... and offering a free VISION STORIES class….. this is a technique and modality that will guide you on how to tap into the imaginal plane and receive inspiration and guidance for planting the seeds of the future you most want to experience. PS: Just moments after publishing this I stumbled across this on facebook by Tony M Davis:— and just had to add this:
“Italian diver Enzo Maiorca while diving into Siracusa sea felt something patting him on the back. He turned around and saw a dolphin, which he understood that he did not want to play but express something.
The dolphin dived and Enzo followed. At a depth of twelve meters trapped in a net there was another dolphin. After managing with his wife to release it, as the two dolphins emerged they emitted an almost human cry (this is how Maiorca described it). Dolphins can be held under water for up to ten minutes then drowned. The trapped dolphin was a female who soon gave birth.
The male surrounded them and standing in front of Enzo touched his cheek (like a kiss), a gesture of gratitude. Enzo finished his speech by saying
′′ Until man learns to respect and communicate with the animal world, he will never be able to know his true role on this Earth. ′′
