On Myth & The Secret Story of Earth
Story is a super-human power tool. And we were born with it. It's as if the stories were given to us long ago so we would have a tool to fight back the forces that will do their best to disconnect us
Hello Good Humans!
A few years ago I was having dinner with Rachel, when all of a sudden... a story started whispering herself to me.
And this wasn't just any story... this was Earth's story... told exactly as she remembered it.
So I asked Rachel... like every writer, poet, storyteller married to the muse is destined to do at one point at another.... "Can we stop talking... and can I share the story that is knocking on my door with you?”
And thank the gods, deities, and elementals that Rachel said yes. Because if she hadn't.... we wouldn't be in this conversation today.
So that is the true story about how this wild being of a story came to walk among us.
The Secret Story of Earth has been talking up a storm ever since.
She has opinions about fracking, about Saturn, has plenty to say about The Story of Scarcity, and has a few opinions about Time.
She has things to say about boundaries, how Love came to exist in this universe, Grief, Commitment, The Power of Change, and the contracts and soul commitments we make with each other.
You want to know the truth about why I love this story so much?
Because without ignoring or escaping the sixth mass extinction, the war on our oceans, the illness of greed, global conflict, this story allows you to live in a joyous way in a bigger story.
A story that brings meaning, perspective, and context to the biggest story: Earth.
This is one of the things myths do:
They provide a way to face life head on: not through a linear path,
not through one point of view,
but by entering onto a wild ride through the wholeness of life.
It is one of the most magnificent and mysterious things we get to do on this planet... share great stories together.
The only technology required:
human connection.
And there lies the art and mastery... because without being connected to one another...
the story can't come alive.
For the word geeks: The etymology of technology:
The first part of the word, techn means “art” or “craft” from Greek, while the second half logy means more literally “the writings on” or “the accumulated knowledge about.”
That's why the oldest technology on earth.... requires our presence, with ourselves, and each other. It's as if the stories were given to us long ago so we would have a tool to fight back the forces that will do their best to disconnect us.
Because when you have the tool of story at your side... you can eek in joy, love, compassion, empathy, and connection into any situation.
Story is a super-human power tool.
And we were born with it.
In a recent interview with Laura Simms, which was just truly lovely, she said, "without inspiration, [storytelling] is only entertainment." and when there is inspiration-- the spirit of life continues.
This modern day mythic story plays with our perspective of Earth
and asks WHAT IF.... we aren't on The Great Mother?
WHAT IF...we are on the maiden...going through the initiation of a life time...
What if ... Earth made a sacred contract to be a healer in the universe....
and Earth is going through her rites of passage to learn how to become a healer and a dreamer?
What role do we play in that story?
Some stories.... like to place people into a state of ease and grace and wrap around them like a blanket.
The Secret Story of Earth asks
move our feet in dance
raise our voices in song
release through the fires
and cleanse with the waters
This is not your sit down and listen kind of story.
This is a .... let us be danced by a story through an interactive community experience.
That is what we will be doing next Friday, April 5 th in Maui
And May 2nd in Berkeley and online.
We'll be joining in community
circling around the community altar
and going on an interactive journey through story, dance, and music.
